Meal Sites

An area meal site any place where food is offered to the hungry for free or at below-market price on a daily or weekly basis. Frequently located in lower-income neighborhoods, they are can be staffed by homeless shelters or volunteer organizations, such as churches or community groups.

Sometimes referred to as soup kitchens or food closets, meal sites often obtain food from a food bank or pantry for free or at a low price, because they are considered a charity.  This makes it easier for them to feed more hungry people in need.
