A food pantry is an organization or group that serves hungry residents by providing basic foodstuffs (e.g. cereal, tuna, pasta, peanut butter, fruits and vegetables) directly to people in need. Pantries are self-governing and usually distribute grocery items to their clients on a regular basis from designated locations.
Pantries do not provide hot, prepared meals, but often support multiple area meal sites by providing donated items for meal preparation by those groups.
