A food bank is a non-profit, charitable organization that fights hunger in a region by storing and distributing food to smaller front line agencies. Food banks usually do not give out food directly to the hungry.
After donated or purchased items are collected, sorted, and reviewed for quality, food banks distribute it to their partners: other non-profit community or government agencies, including food pantries, meal sites, and other direct service programs.
