Direct service programs that address hunger come in many forms, but often are partnerships between public and private agencies in a local community to bring food directly to high-need populations in convenient and easily accessible ways.
Mobile pantries, school pantries, and backpack programs are three very popular programs. Mobile pantries drive make food more accessible in areas where adequate service is an issue. School pantries are located on a campus for students and their families to conveniently access. Backpack programs provide low-income students with a sack of food to take home on the weekend when they do not have access to breakfast and lunch programs at their school.
